"Before that, let me show you your room."

お前が 先に登

"You go up first."

こっちだ

"This way."

土間の角には扉がありそこを 開けると急な階段が現れた

"There was a door in the corner of the dirt floor, and when I opened it, a steep staircase appeared."

二階には十畳ほどの部屋があり...

"There's a ten-tatami-mat room upstairs..."

以前は俺と女房の 寝室だったが・・ 物置きになって いたのを・・・

"It used to be me and my wife's bedroom... but it had become a storage room..."

畳と布団は 新しい物に したから住み やすそうだろう

"I've replaced the tatami mats and futon with new ones, so it should be easy to live in."

窓には分厚い カーテンが下がり 二重のスリガラスが はまっている

"Thick curtains hung on the window, and double frosted glass was fitted."

そして鍵はつぶされ 開けられないように なっていた

"And the lock was crushed, making it impossible to open."

窓の外には柵まで取り付けられ 言ってみれば二階の部屋自体が 牢屋のような構造になっていて 佳代はここに閉じ込められる 事になるのだ

"Bars were even installed on the outside of the window, making the second-floor room itself like a prison. Kayo would be confined here."

自宅に帰る"どころかこんな 所でこれから 生活するなんて

"Not only can't I go home, but I'm going to be living in a place like this from now on?"
